The RS485-MOD2 is a front panel mezzanine module designed to provide serial I/O functionality to Curtiss-Wright FPGA-based processing PMC and XMC modules including the PMC-FPGA03, PMC-FPGA05 and XMC-FPGA05D. This RS485 I/O module provides 33 channels of EIA-485 or EIA-422B serial I/O. Each channel is configured as an input or output. The serial protocol and timing are handled by the host FPGA. The RS485-MOD2 RS485 and RS422 I/O module is aimed at embedded application development in applications such as medical imaging, satellite modems, surveillance, signal intelligence and electronic warfare.
The RS485-MOD2 RS485 and RS422 I/O module directly connects the I/O to the host card's FPGA, removing I/O bottlenecks and creating a highly integrated processing solution.
Each channel of the RS485-MOD2 can be configured as an input or output, and compliant onboard drivers enable choice of RS485 or RS422 support. The module's single 68-way VHDCI (SCSI-5 style) connector allows signal access by way of a pinout that allows use of standard differential SCSI-5 cables, minimizing cost and streamlining development.
The host connector of the Curtiss-Wright I/O modules accommodates delivery of up to 138 signals in a direct connection to the FPGA. These signals are routed as LVDS pairs to maximize flexibility and data speed. Four of the digital I/O pairs can be assigned for local or global clock signals, based on the host board's capabilities.
